Achy Joint Relief in the Peri-Meno Years

Have you ever been told “it’s just your age!” When your joints are stiff, you aren’t sleeping, & your mood is off?

Worryingly, I’ve heard this all too often.   You are not alone if you’ve heard it too.

Today, whether you’ve worked out that there is a ripple effect from a specific root cause…

Or figured that it must be something to do with peri-menopause or menopause…

I want you to know that it doesn’t have to be a time of suffering.

Today I’m sharing with you 3 strategies that is really helping my clients -so you too can feel easier in your joints, and lifted in your mood, especially if you are female, over 35 years old.

Because in fact, whilst aches & pains CAN be due to posture, trigger points &/or injury…there is another root cause that we cannot leave un-addressed!!

Today we are talking HORMONE BALANCE

Lately, do you feel like you have:

  • Achy joints
  • Low mood
  • Trouble sleeping
  • Anxious feelings sometimes, or low moods that are cyclical in nature
  • Hot flashes
  • Heavier periods
  • Uneven cycle lengths these days
  • Weight getting hard to shift; what used to work, doesn’t work any more

If you said YES to more than 3 things on the list above, chances are your oestrogen is on its rollercoaster, which thank fully doesn’t last forever, but can give very unwanted symptoms in the late 30’s – mid 50s during peri-menopause & early after menopause.

And whilst I do indicate working with your GP, these complimentary strategies can work alongside your medical professional.  Often, we find a few strategies together may be required to get to the heart of it.

If you nail these 3 following things, you will feel empowered… aaaaaand you can have some easy strategies to pop you in that control seat.

Bottom line? It isn’t a crazy diet, or massive overhaul…this is about nurturing you’re your hormones in their HUGE role in the peri-meno & menopause years.

  1. If anxious feelings bubble up frequently

Promote the rise of your natural anti-anxiety hormone, progesterone.  Progesterone is made by the corpus luteum after ovulation, and, a little in our adrenal glands – where we also produce our stress hormone.  Once menopause happens, we rely solely on adrenal production of progesterone.

In peri-menopause, sometimes ovulation doesn’t occur, so we need to make sure our cortisol (stress) production doesn’t steal all the energy in our adrenal glands.

Stress is very inflammatory.  Inflammation is one of the leading causes of joint pain.  So, doing something for yourself daily that is self-care, is a lifeline for the health of your joints, muscles & mind.

Also, decreasing your stress, leads to better progesterone (anti-anxiety hormone) production.  Zinc and vitamin E also help progesterone production.

2) If your joints ache like mad

Just pausing for a second to appreciate a powerful little herb…

Clary Sage is a brilliant herbal adaptogen – bringing you into balance when stressed + hormonal.

Research shows its amazing for PMS, perimenopause + menopausal symptoms, as it balances oestrogen levels.

This is because oestrogen plays a vital role in reducing inflammation + regulating fluid levels in the body.  Once oestrogen starts to decline, we lose this buffer & Inflammation is one of the leading causes of joint pain.

Apply clary sage (with a carrier oil) to the muscles + joints to deliver some good phyto-oestrogens when we are experiencing joint pain.

My moto is: Find the root cause of the way we are feeling, then we may be able to do something about it that is natural + supportive.

Clients are loving their Womens Balance blend!

Try this before you get out of bed, at your desk, or whilst you warm-up & stretch out.

3) When you feel crampy + restless

Supporting your liver function is vital for managing sleep and hot flashes.  The easiest way to support this vital organ is to eat your green cruciferous vegetables, daily!

Magnesium will also aid sleep and calm the nervous system (study here)  as well as promote muscle recovery.

Magnesium is a vital mineral that you will find in green leafy vegetables and dark chocolate.  Importantly, our soils are not as magnesium rich as they once were, so our food sources are depleted.

The best source of magnesium is glycinate or bisglycinate and pairs well with taurine if you need more calming affects.  My clients favourite at present is the peri-meno complex, and a therapeutic dose of 300mg is working well.

For more specific nutrient advice, I highly recommend our Goddess program, which is due to start on the 3rd Oct, an online program we work through together, but ultimately at your own pace (and you keep the content forever)

It is important to know that this time in your life does not have to be a terrible time of suffering. Implementing these lifestyle strategies above can kick-start you on a journey to thriving.
