Can we address pain from a different angle?

Have you been living with pain for some time?

Everyday stressors significantly affect our physical body. They trigger the brain to initiate a fight-or-flight response, causing physical effects. Over time, this leads to a persistent pain cycle as the brain and nervous system adapt.

What if there was a way to start turning down the volume on symptoms??

Today, if you are suffering with chronic pain, I have a really important blog for you…I really hope this inspires you to take nurturing action for yourself.

Information is important…but ACTION is where the changes take place…and that’s exactly what I’m here to help you with.

This is because PAIN is not just a product of injury or a virus. Factors like what is going on in your environment, and your stress levels are contributing factors to the experience of pain in your body.
This is known as the ‘bio-psycho-social model’ (1)

We know this to be true, because pain is processed in the brain and the nervous system. The brain decides how much pain to produce.

This is why two people with the same injury can have 2 very different levels of pain.

Current pain science research shows that our brain has the ability to change…to be re-programmed in effect.

This is known as “neuro-plasticity” (2)

You can decrease the intensity of your pain response in a number of ways:

1) Educating yourself with blogs just like this one!  Its amazing how we can down-regulate fear, and turn the taps down on pain, when we are learning successful tools.

2) Meditating, especially using a body scan guide, to consciously be in the present moment, with how each body part is feeling.

3) Slow exhales.  A huge body of research shows breathing into the area of discomfort and then slowing your exhale, is excellent for pain management.

4) Specific mobility exercises. Combining your breath with tuning in to your body.  This encourages brain plasticity and releases taut areas.

If you are curious about how to move in ways that support you, I give simplified clips of on my social media, so its worth following here, and I massively go in-depth with my 1:1s, classes and my online studio…you’ll see that there is help for chronic pain.

Taking small consistent ACTION helps calm down the brains fear response during a flare-up

One thing I know to my bones: Learning how to breathe well + move in a nurturing way can be life-changing.

I hope this helps in a small way to empower you to know that you don’t have to live with pain, there is something you can do.

If you feel like this could be tricky, send me a little email, or check out our online videos here…with plans we can map out together.
