We’ve all been there. You start with the best of intentions — a new supplement, a complicated diet plan, or a “life overhaul” that looks great on paper. But by day three, life gets busy, energy runs low, and the plan gets abandoned. Cue the guilt spiral.
Here’s the truth: success in peri/menopause isn’t about willpower or drastic overhauls. It’s about making things easier.
James Clear, author of Atomic Habits, says:
“Habits are the compound interest of self-improvement.”
But only if you can keep them going. That’s why he emphasises the Law of Least Effort: we naturally gravitate to what’s easy, not what’s complicated.
So, how do we apply this to peri/menopause?

1. Don’t plan too much
Over-planning is a sneaky form of procrastination. Instead of creating a perfect 30-day reset, just plan one simple thing you can do today that feels achievable. Example: swap your mid-afternoon biscuit for a handful of nuts or olives.
2. String small wins together
Every time you succeed, you create momentum. Don’t underestimate the power of consistency over intensity. Drinking one extra glass of water each morning or getting outside for a 10-minute walk may feel small, but those little victories string together into real change.

3. Use the Law of Least Effort
Make the healthy option the easy option.
Keep a water bottle filled and in sight.
Prep cut veggies or boiled eggs so snacks are grab-and-go.
Store herbal tea bags by the kettle, not hidden at the back of a cupboard.
When the healthy thing is easiest, it becomes the natural thing.
Imagine the difference this could make: instead of swinging between “on track” and “falling off the wagon,” you’d feel calmer, steadier, and more in control of your peri/meno journey.
And that’s exactly what we’ll be diving into at the Elevate Wellness Nutrition Day on Saturday 1st November.
