Protein Peri-Meno Chia Pudding Recipe

Chia pudding is a versatile, nutritious, and incredibly easy-to-make recipe that has been incredibly popular with my clients, especially busy ladies who are peri-menopausal and menopausal.

Whether you’re preparing it for breakfast, a snack, or dessert, chia pudding offers a creamy, satisfying texture while packing a punch of nutrients. Here’s everything you need to know to create this yummy meal…plus I’ve added some ideas for customizing it to your taste and to support your phase of life, at the end!

Why Chia Pudding?

Chia seeds are tiny powerhouses of nutrition:

  • Rich in Fiber: They support digestion and keep you feeling full.
  • Packed with Omega-3s: Essential for brain health.
  • Loaded with Antioxidants: These help fight free radicals in your body.
  • High in Protein: Great for muscle repair and satiety.  As we age, our protein needs go up, but our ability to digest it goes down as oestrogen lowers.  So it is important to be concious of getting protein in each meal.

Chia Pudding Recipe

Ingredients

For a basic chia pudding, you’ll need:

  • 2 tablespoons chia seeds
  • ½ cup milk of choice (almond, coconut, oat, dairy, etc.)
  • 1 teaspoon sweetener (optional, like honey, maple syrup, or agave nectar)
  • ½ teaspoon vanilla extract (optional for added flavor)

Instructions

  1. Combine Ingredients
In a bowl or jar, mix the chia seeds, milk, sweetener, and vanilla extract.
  2. Stir Well
Stir thoroughly to ensure the chia seeds are evenly distributed and don’t clump together.
  3. Let It Sit
Cover the container and refrigerate for at least 2 hours, or overnight for the best texture. During the first 30 minutes, give it another stir to prevent the seeds from settling.
  4. Check the Consistency
After the pudding sets, it will have a thick, tapioca-like texture. If it’s too thick, stir in a bit more milk until you reach your desired consistency.
  5. Add Toppings
Top your chia pudding with your favorite ingredients. Popular choices include:

    • Fresh or frozen berries
    • The absolutely powerhouses for peri-menopause and menopause…a tablespoon of ‘Peachie’ topping
    • Fresh fruits like  banana slices
    • Granola or nuts for crunch
    • A drizzle of nut butter

Tips for the Perfect Chia Pudding

  • Experiment with ingredients for your cycle/phase of life: Pumpkin seeds and flax as a topping is great to boost your oestrogen levels, which makes them ideal in the 1st half of your cycle, or daily through and after the menopause.  I LOVE the ‘Peachie’ brand toppings, they taste so go with all the right ingredients to boost you, and are easy to grab on-the-go.  They have kindly given me a discount code for my clients:
  • Use Jana3 for £5 off a pack of 3.
  • Use Jana1 for 5% off 1 pack.  Click here for their website
  • Choose the Right Ratio of chia: A good base ratio is 2 tablespoons of chia seeds to ½ cup of liquid. Adjust according to your preferred thickness.
  • Use a Mason Jar: It’s perfect for mixing, storing, and serving.
  • Experiment with Flavors: Add cocoa powder for a chocolate version, or a protein powder (top tip, when choosing a protein powder, make sure you can understand every ingredient on the label, not all powders are created equal!)

Storage

Chia pudding can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 4 days. This makes it an excellent meal prep option for busy weeks!

Chia pudding is more than just a health trend—it’s a delicious, customizable, and nutrient-packed option that fits into any nutrition plan. With just a few minutes of prep time, you can enjoy a creamy, satisfying treat that’s good for your body and taste buds for up to 4 days ahead!
