Taking charge of Heart Health this World Menopause Day

Did you know that within women’s health, there’s a thread that often goes unnoticed, silently weaving its way through our lives?

It’s one that deserves more recognition…its cardiovascular disease.  It’s actually the leading cause of death and disability in women.

As we gather on this International Menopause Day, let’s unravel the mystery behind women’s heart health, exploring how menopause affects our heart health, and discover the strength that lies within us—both in the weight we lift and the choices we make.

Join us in a journey to empower women, embrace their health, and claim the heart-healthy lives we deserve.

Understanding the Reality:

Cardiovascular disease is on the rise, affecting an increasing number of women, especially younger ones, due to factors like high blood pressure, obesity, and diabetes. Recognizing the different risk factors is crucial, as awareness empowers women to take proactive steps in reducing their chances of developing cardiovascular issues.

The Impact of Menopause:

Menopause, a natural phase in a woman’s life, can influence heart health significantly.  Partly this is due to the drop in our protective oestrogen.

Early or premature menopause, occurring below the age of 45, can speed the development of cardiovascular disease. Even menopause at the average age of 51 can heighten the risk. Being aware, and seeking advice from your GP is important.

Positive Changes:

Empowering the women we love to make positive changes in their lives is essential.

  1. nurturing through nutrition, like the Mediterranean whole food diet, which has shown promising results in numerous research papers for perimenopause and beyond.

Eating wholesome, nutritious foods not only aids in heart health but also contributes to overall well-being.

2. Exercise is absolutely essential for women’s health, especially during and after menopause. Resistance work, such as weightlifting or strength training, is vital for building bone density and boosting metabolism. This form of exercise not only supports the skeletal system but also contributes to a healthier heart. Strength training strengthens the body’s entire system, promoting overall well-being.  This is why we gradually (with good form!) introduce dumbells and resistance bands in both in-person and the online Vitality Method membership (which is less than the price of a posh coffee a week!)

In line with promoting heart-healthy lifestyles, I am excited to introduce our upcoming online Goddess program. This is a self-paced program you journey through fromt he comfort of your living room.  It not only delves into the benefits of a Mediterranean whole food diet but also emphasizes the importance of exercise, including resistance work, in maintaining a healthy heart and a strong, resilient body.
