THE golden protector in peri-menopause

I don’t know when we decided that once we start peri-menopause and beyond it’s too hard to make positive metabolic changes

Perfection standard #1 you don’t have allll the kit, so you wonder if what you have can make a difference…

Perfection standard #2 you have minimal time between all the family commitments, so you wonder if doing short workouts can make a difference …

I mean, I love how I feel when I get to move my body —don’t get me wrong …

… but here is the golden nugget…the very BEST workouts are the short ones, with some kind of resistance ( ONE band, OR, ONE set of dumbbells for example!)

AND THAT’S BRILLIANT!

You see, as I enter peri-menopause AND work with many peri-post menopausal ladies, there is something I have to shout from the rooftops…we CAN offset the metabolic changes that try to take hold as our hormones change…with resistance training!

With OUR LIFE-PHASE  in mind, the monthly challenges in my Online Studio are designed specifically to progress you out of pain >>> and into stability + resistance work, gently and progressively across each month.

I’ll say this really up front; it is never too late (or too early!) to start lifting weights to improve your strength, your bone density and metabolism.

Why strength training shines…for metabolism:

We know from research that resistance training and interval training is critical in the menopausal transition to reduce the negative health changes that can happen in the years leading up to menopause.

Research like this 2022 study, looked at how perimenopausal ladies responded to exercise tests to see what happened to metabolism.  With resistance training and intervals, the ladies improved their metabolic flexibility and used fat as a fuel.

How resistance work helps reduce cardiovascular disease:

A 2022 study found that any amount of strength training reduced cardiovascular disease mortality by 19%. And a 2019 study of more than 12,500 participants reported that those who performed at least one hour of strength training per week had a 40 percent to 70 percent decreased risk of cardiovascular disease events like heart attack or stroke.

Resistance training for Brain heath:

Resistance training triggers a cascade of muscle-based proteins that help generate new connections in the brain. It also stimulates the release of a hormone called irisin that improves brain function and health.

It’s not about “going at it” and lifting really heavy…

Life has thrown most of my clients curveballs for their health, and they need to exercise smart, not crazy.

What does this mean for YOU?

That THIS is your permission slip: You definitely don’t have to be an experienced “exerciser”.

You can join in WITH all your doubts & imperfections.

You’re actually EXACTLY the type of person that I work with all the time.

Consider this your official invite to Februarys online challenge.  You can do it on demand, do the Zooms live or on catch-up…and gently progress your way to resistance and Pilates Low-impact-intervals.  It’s going to be fun!
